In July 2006, Money Magazine ranked this town of 57,000 residents the ninth “best place to live” in the United States, and the best place to live in the Northeast. Fairfield is located directly on the Long Island Sound, and has the distinction of having several universities, beaches and hosting many community activities.
Because of this, there is always something happening in town and near the water: cultural events at the universities, the nationally known Dogwood Festival on Mothers Day, and beaches teeming with activity. The town features traditional architecture, but also includes farmhouses, sprawling horse properties and lovely waterfront homes situated near its three family-friendly town beaches. It has many neighborhoods, including Fairfield Center, Greenfield Hill, Sasco, Southport, Stratfield and Tunxis Hill. There is plenty of shopping along historic Post Road, featuring boutiques, national chains and many well-known restaurants.
